Angle filter housing

An Angle filter, as the name suggests, is a pipeline strainer with a body shaped like a right angle (typically 90 degrees). 

It is one of the most widely used strainers in industrial fluid transport systems, primarily used to remove solid impurities from fluids (liquids or gases) to protect downstream critical equipment such as pumps, valves, instruments, and heat exchangers.

I. Structure and Working Principle

 1. Basic Structure

 A typical Angle filter mainly consists of the following components:

· Body/Housing: Withstands pipeline pressure and is the main structure of the strainer. Usually cast or forged, materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc., selected based on the fluid medium and operating conditions.

· Screen/Basket: The core filtering element, typically made of metal mesh (e.g., stainless steel mesh) or perforated metal plate. Impurities are trapped on the inner or outer surface of the screen.

· Cover/Cap: Used to seal the strainer body, allowing it to be opened when necessary for screen cleaning or replacement. Connection types include flanged, threaded, butt-weld, etc.

· Sealing Element: Such as gaskets or O-rings, ensuring a seal between the cover and the body to prevent medium leakage.

2. Working Principle

Fluid enters the strainer through the inlet and makes a 90-degree turn. During this turn, the fluid must pass through the screen. The holes in the screen allow only the fluid to pass through, while trapping solid particulate impurities larger than the mesh size. The clean fluid then exits through the outlet, which is at a 90-degree angle to the inlet.

1. Right-Angle Design:

   · Saves Space: Can be installed directly at a pipeline elbow, replacing an elbow and a straight-line strainer. Compact structure, especially suitable for applications with limited space.

   · Utilizes Centrifugal Force: When the fluid changes direction at the corner, heavier impurities tend to settle in the "dirt pocket" at the bottom of the screen due to inertia, providing a degree of primary separation and sedimentation, reducing the load on the screen.

2. Efficient Filtration:

   · Effectively removes mechanical impurities such as iron chips, welding slag, scale fragments, and seal material debris from pipelines.

3. Low Pressure Drop:

   · A well-designed Angle filter causes minimal pressure loss (pressure drop) to the fluid when clean.

4. Easy Maintenance:

   · Most Angle filters only require opening the cover to remove the screen for cleaning or replacement, without needing to dismantle the entire strainer body from the pipeline, making maintenance convenient.

   · Can be selected and customized according to different filtration accuracy (mesh size), pressure ratings, temperatures, and connection standards.
